In his role as CEO at Bahnson, Inc. Andy uses his proven track record of operational leadership, strategy development, team building, and customer service along with strong technical skills to lead the company as it continues to grow and deliver exceptional customer service.


During Andy’s successful career in the U.S. Army, he directed military, civilian, and multinational teams on the Army’s highest priority missions, programs, and projects throughout the world. Most recently, Andy worked as Chief of Staff for the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Installations, Energy & Environment).

Previously, Andy served in a number of capacities in the U.S. Army, including as Engineer Director in Afghanistan, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District, and Commander of the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power) during multiple tours of duty overseas.

Andy earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He also earned a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Washington, and completed Harvard University’s National Security Fellows Program. Andy is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

The Personal Side

Andy and his wife Amy are proud parents of two children. Their son is a law student at the University of North Carolina; their daughter is a nursing student and Army ROTC cadet at the University of Alabama. The Backus family loves to attend sporting events, especially college football games.
